MGC Member Society Spotlights

Spotlight on Member Societies: TIARA

The Irish Ancestral Research Association meets monthly at Boston College in the Cleveland Circle neighborhood of Boston. It was founded in 1983 by the TIARA Eleven. TIARA has always taken a friendly approach to supporting everyone researching Irish ancestry, whether northern or southern. As a consequence, they are active in many ways that other societies only dream of.

TIARA earned the “.ie” designation on its URL from the Irish government for its contributions. It runs regular research trips to north and south Ireland and provides all-day educational seminars (one is on May 8) and workshops in addition to the regular monthly meetings.

TIARA stands out for its cooperation with other societies. In the past, TIARA has presented full tracks at MGC and NEHGS. Its real accomplishment, however, is its complete integration into local Irish cultural life through its alliance with the Irish Cultural Center of New England and notices in The Boston Irish Reporter.
